And now we are 2

Oh my darling boy…it’s hard to believe you are already two. You certainly aren’t a baby anymore and you’re almost too tall to pass for a toddler…but you are perfect. And I can’t believe I get to hang out with you all day long.

Happy Birthday hombrecito…you are my favorite little person.

Eating my way across the country

Hello there. It’s been awhile. I missed you. Did you miss me? Could summer already be halfway gone? I don’t even know what day it is, we’ve been doing so much running around. Not complaining though. It’s been lovely. From fresh tomatoes and mountains of basil right out of the garden to tubing on the lake in Vermont to s’mores, swim meets and sleeping gorillas, it’s all been wonderful. And so very American.

When I first got back and was heading to New Jersey from JFK, I seriously had heart palpitations as the taxi passed a Target. It was so exciting. Then, in quick succession, we visited a Trader Joe’s, a Whole Foods and this ridiculous wine/cheese emporium in Millburn (yes, emporium is the right word here). It was almost too much.

But I persevered. And purchased. Not a lot. Just some things I haven’t had in a long time. Like what, you ask? Well, let’s see. Like, peanut butter (of course), almond butter (oh yes), chocolate-covered caramels, porcini-crusted raw goat cheese (from aforementioned emporium), half & half (sweet Jesus, that is good), insane nectarines from the farmers market, whole wheat tortillas, orzo (!), good organic fair trade decaf coffee (not the contradiction in terms that it sounds like), Sabra hummus (although mine is better), dried cranberries, tempeh…

And I’ve eaten. And cooked a few things, although I’ve mostly been fed a lot. Which has been just lovely.

But we’re now back in the city in a temporary sublet (bachelor pad = not a very well-kitted out kitchen). We’re just down the block from Whole Foods and a Trader Joe’s opened up a few blocks away, so life is good. And we’ll try to get something cooked up around here.

Hope everyone is enjoying this beautiful summer (and stay warm to all my amigos suffering through one of the coldest winters in Buenos Aires in a long time)!
